About Mount Kailash & Mansarowar Lake:
Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, located in the Himalayas of western Tibet (China) are incredibly sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus. They are revered as the divine place of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to the Vishnu Purana, Kailash Mountain has four faces symbolizing Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, and Gold, and is adorned in a beautiful posture. Mount Kailash is situated among the six massive Himalayan ranges and also worshipped as a lotus flower.
As mentioned in our renowned religious manuscripts like the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Vishnu Purana, Sages, Gurus, and numerous ascetic scholars have performed austerities in this holy land, attaining divine powers and liberation. Even Ravan, the King of Lanka, is said to have performed intense austerities here to please Lord Shiva and was granted the blessings. Subsequently, he made a futile attempt to uproot Mount Kailash itself, as described in the Uttara Kanda of the Ramayana.
The holy Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake are considered the source of renowned rivers like the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali. These rivers have played a significant role in the development of human civilization and livelihoods in the Asian subcontinent. According to mythology, the Bhagirathi Ganga, born from Lord Shiva's matted locks, flowed down to Earth from Mount Kailash, marking the beginning of human creation and civilization. The other four rivers originating from the Mt. Kailash range - the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali - have divided the world into four parts.
With an elevation of 21,778 feet (6,638 meters) above sea level and a circumference of 52 kilometers, this vast Kailash Mountain is believed to be the link between heaven and earth. At Mt. Kailash, the convergence of light waves and sound waves creates the resonance of the "Om Mantra". This region is the spiritual center of the world, from where the divine "OM" sound emanates, guiding the spiritual world. According to ancient legends, the city of Kubera, the lord of wealth, is also located in this sacred region of Mt. Kailash. According to mythology, deities, sages, demons, Ravana, Bhasmasura, Andhakasa, and others performed austerities here and received the blessings. In Hinduism, it is believed that circumambulating the sacred Mount Kailash once is equivalent to completing one cycle of life. Twelve circumambulations are said to destroy sins, including those from past lives, while 108 circumambulations lead to liberation from the cycle of birth and death, granting divine status. Mount Kailash is not only a holy religious site for Hindus but also a sacred place of penance for Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs. Buddhists call Mount Kailash Kangrinboce, while Jains refer to it as Mount Meru. The first Jain Tirthankara and Guru Nanak of Sikhism also performed intense austerities in this holy land and attained liberation. Thus, Mount Kailash has been a multi-religious value and importance.
The pilgrimage to this site is considered extremely important and famous among pilgrims and tourists worldwide, attracting thousands of visitors seeking spiritual enlightenment or simply curiosity. Members of the Omkar family, in particular, take a special interest in the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
