With your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, your 11-day journey starts with a tour of the Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu Valley Tour takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the valley. It includes the three durbar squares, along with a side trip to Nagarkot.
After the short excursion of Kathmandu Valley, the tour proceeds to the City of Lakes, Pokhara. Pokhara houses eight lakes among which you will visit Phewa Lake and Begnas Lake, and also spend the time sightseeing some of the prominent places of the city, all the while relishing the gorgeous view of Mt Machhapuchhre (6993m) and Annapurna (8091m). Itinerary
You will arrive in Kathmandu City. It is the only city in Nepal to host an international airport. You will be taken to a 3-star hotel for the overnight stay.
On this day, you will explore the Kathmandu city. Kathmandu city is the capital of the country. You will visit Swayambhunath Temple, in the morning. Swayambhunath is a famous Buddhist temple, situated on a small hill inside Kathmandu Valley. One can get a good look of Kathmandu city from this temple. You will also visit the famous Basantapur Durbar Square. This is a palace square of Malla Kingdom. There are various numbers of temples that surround this palace. Build in Nepali architecture, you get to witness the unique style and get awed by the large temple. Then, you go to Patan city. Patan is another Malla Kingdom in the valley. You will also visit Patan Durbar Square and its surrounding temples. The unique architecture of Krishna Mandir is famous because of its only use of stone. Then, you will drive to Nagarkot to enjoy the sunset. Nagarkot is a small hill station just outside of Kathmandu Valley. Overnight at a hotel in Nagarkot.
Enjoy the sunrise from Nagarkot from the sunrise viewpoint. After breakfast, you will drive to Bhaktapur city, which is one of the oldest cities inside Kathmandu Valley. Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, one of the oldest durbars squares of all three you will visit. Enjoy different temples around the square, the most famous one being Naytapola temple. After visiting Bhaktapur, you will visit Pashupatinath temple, one of the most famous temples for Hindus, especially the devotees of Lord Shiva. Today, we will drive you from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The total distance is 200 km and will take up to 5-6 hours. Driving on the Prithvi Highway alongside Trishuli River, you will get to relish the countryside view of the hills, the rivers, the streams, and the roadside settlements until you reach the City of Lakes. After reaching Pokhara, you will be transferred to the hotel where you can freshen up and rest. In the evening, you will get to enjoy the cultural programme. Today, you will visit two of the eight lakes in Pokhara. As you will be staying in the lakeside area, you can visit Phewa Lake at any time of the day. Your sightseeing tour in Pokhara starts with a visit to Davis falls, and Mahendra Cave. Next, you will be taken to Begnas Lake, which is mostly quiet because of less number of people visiting there. You will have a peaceful time there. You will also be able to witness Mt Machhapuchhre (6993m) and Annapurna (8091m). Overnight at the hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara.
Today, you will be driving to Chitwan from Pokhara. It will take about 4-5 hours. Upon reaching Chitwan National Park, you can freshen up and take a short rest in your hotel room. Afterwards, you will take a walk in the colourful Tharu village. Tharu are a group of indigenous people living in the flatlands of Nepal for centuries. You can observe their lifestyle, housing structure, and innocent people. You will then visit the elephant stable. Overnight at the hotel in Chitwan National Park.
In Chitwan, you will take an Elephant Safari inside the national park. You will be able to see different wild animals while riding the elephant. You may encounter a one-horned rhino as you go about the jungle. Then, you go for a Jungle Walk in the thick forest of Chitwan National Park. Both Elephant Safari and Jungle Walk allow you to see animals in their natural habitat. Chitwan National Park has also been enlisted under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its rich natural diversity. After a walk in the jungle, you will visit the Elephant Breeding Centre. Then, take a canoe ride in Rapti River. In the evening, you will get to enjoy the Tharu stick culture dance. Overnight at the hotel in Chitwan National Park.
You will go for a short bird watching walk in the national park, early in the morning. There are about 543 species of birds in Chitwan National Park, which makes it a perfect place for bird watching. After breakfast, you will head west towards Lumbini. It is about a 4-5 hours drive to reach Lumbini from Chitwan. Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, hosts numerous temples and monasteries and is a history as well as a culturally significant place in Nepal. In Lumbini, you will visit Maya Devi Temple, which is named after Buddha's mother and hosts the remains of an age-old palace where Buddha is believed to have born as well as the footprint of Buddha's first step. After bird watching, we will transport you to Lumbini. Then, you will visit the sacred Lumbini Gardena and the Ashoka Pillar—a pillar installed by the Emperor Asoka of Maurya Empire. Today, you will drive to Tilaurkot, a historical site in Kapilvastu, 27 km west of Lumbini. There, you visit the ancient palace of King Suddodhan, father of Siddhartha Gautam, where Gautama Buddha spent 29 years of his life as a Shakya prince. Although in ruins at present, one can imagine the luxurious life of the King and Siddhartha Gautam before he found out about the sufferings of life and abandoned the palace and the family in search of answers. Afterwards, you will visit the Kapilvastu Museum which displays some of the artefacts of the ancient kingdom. Overnight at a hotel in Lumbini.
Today, you will drive to the domestic airport in Bhairahawa and catch the flight back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, you will have a free day. You can spend this day by exploring the markets by yourself and shopping for souvenirs to take back home to family and friends. Overnight.
